Development Of a Document Management System

Client

Endeavor Air is an American regional airline that operates as Delta Connection for Delta Air Lines. The airline was founded as Express Airlines I in 1985 and changed names to Pinnacle Airlines in 2002.

Business Need:

Client had all the documents/manuals pertaining to the aircrafts, maintenance history, spares, etc stored in a variety of places – on networks, on individual PC hard drives, CDs, and zip drives, in file cabinets and in desk drawers. To complicate matters, the people who needed access to these documents were often situated in different locations. Moreover, since there were multiple versions of the document at various places, it was hard to determine which is the most current and accurate one. Thus, there was a need for centralized document repository which is accessible to all the authorized users.

Solution:

§  We worked with the client to help them define and implement strategies that improved decision-making, business productivity and agility.

§  An intranet Portal with document management capabilities was created for all the users within the organization.

§  This system serve as a central repository for all important documents that can subsequently be accessed, viewed, changed and shared within the organization.

§  Rigorous security policies and role-based access control (RBAC) was put in place to safeguard confidential business information where authorized users alone were allowed to view certain files or documents.

§  As the solution was Web-based, users had the ability to access files and documents anywhere, anytime, regardless of device used, which was particularly handy when collaborating on projects with team members who were on the go or located remotely.

§  With tags, categories, subcategories, and metadata to mark the files and documents, they become easier to organize, locate, and retrieve for future use. A search using the appropriate keywords yielded relevant results in a matter of seconds.
